Meet our Consultant Radiologists

After your scan has been performed at your choice of Spire or Nuffield hospitals in Bristol, it will be read only by one of our six Consultant Radiologists. They are all highly experienced doctors, with areas of individual specialist expertise. Within their NHS work, they are members of various multi-disciplinary teams including gastrointestinal, hepatobiliary, colorectal, urology, gynaecology, and mesh imaging. Our doctors cover also general radiology, such as reading plain film X-rays. We will allocate you to the relevant doctor.

Dr Shoba Philip

Shoba worked as a physician in South Wales and Bristol, attaining Membership of the Royal College of Physicians in 2003. Shoba then trained in radiology in Bristol, obtaining a Fellowship in abdominal and pelvic imaging from the University of Toronto in 2012. Later that year, she was appointed as a Consultant Radiologist at Southmead Hospital, North Bristol NHS Trust. Shoba has delivered presentations at many national and regional radiology conferences and is the Managing Partner of Bristol Medical Imaging Partners LLP.

Dr Michael Darby

Mike trained at Cambridge and London, qualifying as a doctor in 1984. Mike later trained as a radiologist at St George's Hospital, London, and was appointed as a Consultant Radiologist at Southmead Hospital, North Bristol NHS Trust, in 1994.

Dr Paul McCoubrie

Paul graduated from St George's Hospital Medical School, London, in 1996, training later as a radiologist in Sheffield and Bristol. Paul was appointed as a Consultant Radiologist at Southmead Hospital, North Bristol NHS Trust, in 2004. Having a strong interest in medical education, Paul later became Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer at the University of Bristol, a Royal College of Radiologists Examiner, and was appointed Training Programme Director for the Severn Deanery Postgraduate School of Radiology.

Dr Mark Thornton

Mark graduated from the University of Bristol in 1987 then undertook postgraduate medical training in Bristol. In 1998, Mark was appointed as a Consultant Radiologist at Southmead Hospital, North Bristol NHS Trust. He is an honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer at the University of Bristol and Deputy Head of Training at the Severn Deanery Postgraduate School of Radiology. Mark is a member of the British Society of Interventional Radiologists, the Cardiovascular and Interventional Radiological Society of Europe, and the British Institute of Radiology.

Dr Ali Reza Vosough

Ali is a general radiologist with a special interest in imaging the abdomen and pelvis. Ali trained as a Radiologist in Scotland, then undertook a two-year Fellowship in in abdominal and pelvic imaging from the University of Toronto. He was appointed a Consultant Radiologist at Southmead Hospital, North Bristol NHS Trust, in 2014.

Dr Douglas Kopcke

Douglas is an accomplished Consultant Radiologist at Southmead Hospital, North Bristol NHS Trust. He graduated from the University of Manchester in 2009 then undertook postgraduate training at Imperial College London and thereafter a clinical fellowship in uroradiology at University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. Douglas is the Radiology lead for the South-West UK Prostate Working Group, coordinating regional strategy improvements in prostate imaging and management.
